After first announcing that he would be returning for the next season, NBC says Adam Levine is leaving “The Voice” after 16 seasons. He will be replaced by Gwen Stefani. Levine was one of the original coaches on the singing competition when it launched in 2011. While he was initially thrilled to be on the show, reports are he has been unhappy, particularly since none of his singers made it to the final round, yet he still had to show up for the show. He was reportedly difficult during the taping, and refused to add comments about the other judges’ singers. In addition, he was unhappy with having to fly to New York on Mother’s Day to perform NBC’s ‘up fronts’ for potential show sponsors. Though he’s leaving The Voice, Levine isn’t departing the NBC fold entirely. He’s an executive producer of the network’s songwriter competition Songland, which premieres tonight May 28.
