Eric Church says “Desperate Man” may be his favorite album, and it’s all because of “Some of It”
ABC/Image Group LAEric Church premiered the new video for his latest hit, “Some of It,” Saturday night before his marathon solo show at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium.
When Eric was making his latest album, he recalls that “Some of It” was one of the first songs he took into the studio. But by the time Desperate Man was finished, “Some of It” hadn’t made the cut.
That all changed when Eric’s wife, Katherine, was previewing the new album for a friend, which she followed up with some of the songs that didn’t make the record.
“The first thing she played was ‘Some of It,’” Eric remembers. “And I hadn’t listened to it in a while, and it was always a favorite song of mine. It’s why it was the first one we took in.”
“And I listened to it that night,” he continues, “and went ‘I’m gonna regret if I don’t record this song.’ The… record was essentially done. I said, ‘I gotta do this. I gotta cut this song.’”
In the end, Eric believes “Some of It” makes Desperate Man stand out among his other efforts.
“I think it’s really interesting that the album took on an identity that allowed ‘Some of It’ to make it from where it started to where it is now,” he explains. “And it just fit in the dialogue. It fit in what the entire album’s talking about and, to me, it made the album.”
“I loved the album before it was on there,” Eric adds, “but it might be my favorite album now that it’s on there.”
Next up, Eric’s Double Down Tour continues June 28 with two nights at The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington.
