New in Theaters: “Spider-Man: Far From Home”
“Spider-Man: Far From Home” (PG-13) After the events of “Avengers: Endgame”, Peter Parker feels overwhelmed and in serious need of a break from being Spider-Man. He leaves his suit behind when he goes on a European vacation with his class . . . and blows off calls from Nick Fury.
So when Fury finally tracks him down, he’s not amused and puts a tranquilizer dart into Ned’s neck to get Peter’s attention. Then he introduces him to Jake Gyllenhaal . . . a hero from an alternate Earth, who’s there to help fight mysterious elemental creatures. Gyllenhaal’s character is better known as Mysterio to any comic book fans who want spoilers. Tom Holland is Spider-Man and Samuel L. Jackson is Nick Fury.
Zendaya is back as Peter’s crush M.J., and Jon Favreau returns as “Iron Man” sidekick Happy Hogan, who’s still keeping tabs on Peter for Tony . . . and now has obvious feelings for Aunt May (Marisa Tomei).
The MCU’s final “Phase 3” movie is getting strong reviews, with an audience score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie’s out in over 4,600 theaters and should easily clear $125 million this week. Some experts expect it to clear $175 million.
