Sony plans an unprecedented number of soundtracks for Ken Burns’ “Country Music” documentary
LegacySony’s Legacy Recordings will put out an array of soundtracks to coincide with Ken Burns’ upcoming eight-part documentary about country music.
The first, a five-CD boxed set, titled Country Music – A Film by Ken Burns (The Soundtrack), will arrive on August 30. The collection forms a chronological history of the genre, starting with classics from The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers, and moving forward to include Patsy Cline, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Keith Whitley, The Judds and many more.
A double-disc version is set to follow on Friday, September 13, as well as a double LP and a digital release. The film itself premieres the following Sunday, September 15 on PBS.
And as if that weren’t enough options, there are even more: a single disc available only at Walmart, and a red-white-and-blue vinyl version that’s exclusive to Barnes & Noble.
You can check out the track listings for all the incarnations online.
