Russell Dickerson‘s a firm believer in sticking to who he is, and that extends to his artistry and musical output.

“I feel like I just keep leaning in and, like, not caring about this or that or who’s cool or what’s that,” Russell tells ABC Audio. “I’m just like, there’s only one me, and that’s like always what I’ve stuck to.”

“That’s what started working for me in the first place,” he says. “So, just keep on RD-ing.”

Keeping on “RD-ing” also means being selective about the things he sings about, even if they’re not what you usually hear in country songs.

“You know, you hear a bunch of like, oh, whiskey, breakup, blah-blah songs. And I’m just like, ‘That’s just not, that ain’t my story. It’s not my vibe,’” he notes. “I’m just out here trying to spread positivity.”

Russell’s latest single, “Bones,” is making its way up the country charts. You can find it on his five-track Bones The EP, out now.
